The President of the Republic of Seychelles, Wawel Ramkalavan, became the first head of state in Africa to be immunized with Sinopharm's COVID-19 vaccine. He has officially launched the country’s National COVID-19 Immunisation Campaign in order to reduce the spread of the virus.
The Ministry of Health will start implementing the vaccine to key groups in the country on January 11, 2021, with priority given to Health Care Workers and other front line groups.
Ramkalavan highlighted the need for the country to unite as a nation and, with the help of health authorities, limit the spread of the deadly virus and restore economic development in the country.
The President also expressed his sincere gratitude to former President Danny Faure, who also participated in the vaccination campaign in show of his support for the nation and all health professionals in the battle against the pandemic.
