As a result of the National COVID-19 Immunisation Campaign in the Republic of Seychelles and the authorities' efforts to launch mass vaccination, rapid progress of 7.1 doses administered per 100 inhabitants has been recorded on the Our World in Data website, which tracks coronavirus vaccinations worldwide.
Its results show that by January 19, 2021, Seychelles is among the countries with the highest rate of Covid-19 vaccination, significantly more than the United States’ 3.7 doses per 100 of its citizens. It also surpasses the United Kingdom, which is currently ranked fifth with 6.7 doses for every 100 people.
“With such a robust vaccination campaign, Seychelles aims to be the first country in the world to vaccinate at least 70% of its over 18 population. From there we will be able to declare Seychelles as being COVID safe. This will allow us to reopen our economy,” said President Ramkalawan during the campaign launch.
Most infectious disease experts believe that approximately 60-70 percent of the population needs to be immunized to to suppress the spread of Covid-19 among the general population, NBC News reported earlier.
